The New Lexus Hybrid Should Exceed Expectations

Many people are upset when it comes to the 2008 Lexus GS 450h because they’re hybrid expectations are so high. And rightfully so: a hybrid getting 22/25MPG? This doesn’t make any sense. Unlike its Toyota counterpart, the Prius set the hybrid bar high with an astounding 48MPG. So why can’t Lexus do the same?

Did we expect the Lexus to blaze around in comfortable leather seats and a powerful engine with near half century MPG? Did we think we’d finally drive in 339hp luxury vehicle that would drive to Alaska and back on one tank of gas? We all know by now its hard to get everything we want. So sacrafices must be made. If your only concern is the environment, please drive a much smaller, lighter, and less stylish Prius. But be warned, a Prius doesn’t come packed with a V6 engine that launches from zero to sixty in 5.2 seconds.

Although much different than most Hybrids, there are some of the same benefits of owning a hybrid vehicle. For example: you’re sitting in a line of traffic and instead of the engine wasting fuel on sitting at a stand still, the gas engine shuts itself off. Enough power is generated by the electric motor thus lowering city emissons and resources.

The bottom line is the Lexus GS 450h goes toe to toe with the competition in premium luxury and performance yet still offers an alternative for those seeking a hybrid vehicle.
